| Hi, we are prototyping a product with the SOMO 14D and we've ran into a show stopper, for some reason we are experiencing a 3 second delay before a file is played. We've tried Sandisk 2 GB and Transcend 2 GB cards, I've tried different modules in a simplified test circuit by triggering play directly with the same result. The first few files play right away, the rest with a 3 second delay. We've formatted the cards and added the sequentially numbered files all at once as the data sheet recommends. I've noticed that if I interrupt a file being played with a play next command the next file plays immediately. These files are 8000hz mono wav files converted to ad4 with the utility and are about 6 seconds in length. We have delivered an early prototype to our customer with this module, a change now would would be a big problem for us. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

I can't easily test that at the moment, but my original 'jig' had many files played by pressing keys on a keyboard and I never encountered such a thing. Are you sure there isn't 3 seconds of empty space in the files in question (assuming they are different files)? What about the command 'protocol' are you missing something important that may be causing a 'timeout' in some situations? |

| We've recorded these files with virtually no empty space at the beginning or end, as for the command protocol we are testing the module out of the product on a breadboard using simple switches to pull the "play" input low. We are trying to rule out everything we can to get to the bottom of this problem. |

| Can I send the sound files for you to try? |

| I've figured it out, sort of. I'm using a Windows Vista VM on an (intel) iMac to create these files. I've moved files created from the utility using the Mac OS. One of the first things I tried when I discovered this delay problem was to copy the files to a thumb drive, bring it to a pure PC running windows and move the files to the micro SD, this didn't work. What worked was working completely in my Windows Vista VM to move the files to the micro SD. For some reason moving the files from my Mac to the jump drive changed the files in some way. Can you shed some light on this? |

Gee, not me.
Maybe something is seeing the 'extension' and saying 'Gee I need to translate this' and then stuffing it up? |

| I wish it were something as blatant than that. I've looked closely at the file attributes and found no difference between what is transferred between the two OSs. The jump drive is formatted as FAT, and so is the microSD.
I noticed in the data sheet that it's advised that all the files should be transferred at once after a complete erase, what is the reason for this?

| The idea is to ensure that all the files are contiguous. |

| I know this thread is a little old, but there are lots and lots of posts on the PICAXE forum about this module. Speaking from my own experience with this module, it does not like the taste of many 2GB cards. Pretty much all 1GB or less cards work fine in my tests. SanDisk brand seems to give the least number of problems in my tests. I was using 128MB cards, and jumping from one file to the next was essentially instant. |
