Greetings everyone.
We at 4D are about to embark on a redesign of the PICASO based P1 modules and we'd like to give our faithful customers the opportunity to provide input.
Obviously we aren't going to make massive changes as we know that's the last thing you would want.
How about the onboard amp and speaker? Do you use it? Would you miss it if it was removed, of course you could still add your own, better adapter amp and speaker using ‘line out’.
Any suggestions welcomed. |

Reply with quote | #2 | * I use this display with the SPE only so I would like to see J1 and J2 removed. This would make for a much thinner device in my application. It also simplifies my PCB routing. * Change the SPE connector to vertical rather than horizontal. * Remove the speaker and amplifier. * The PCB should be no larger than the OLED glass. Use mounting pins soldered to the board or surface mount PEM nuts.

Reply with quote | #3 | I'd like a return to the 0.1" pins horizontally mounted since the J1, J2 connectors are not easy to get hold of. Also, does anyone use the pins marked as "Reserved, do not use"? This would cut down the number of 0.1" pins required.

Reply with quote | #4 | An oboard mini usb connector that gives direct access to the display memory or ability to write to sd card or some dual port memory on the board. At the moment everything has to go through the serial port and processor which means it is not practical to display live images on the screen - just pre-stored on the sd.
Remove the expansion connectors and speaker or make them optional or make them fine pitch ribbon connectors to a break-out board in order to reduce thickness.
Implement an lcd power down function with correct supply sequencing - maybe wake-up from serial/usb.
Do not make old version obsolete. |

Reply with quote | #5 | I would like to use the combination OLEDpanel-S6E63D6-Picaso-uSDcard-4DGL as the frontend for instrumentation with a serially connected microcontroller doing the interaction with sensors and actuation (counting, ADC, DAC, PWM, etc.) as the backend. Studying the materials and forum postings makes me confident that this will be comparatively painless. What I found puzzling indeed is the Picaso board offering. When choosing the size of the OLEDpanel one wants to take the largest one that will fit the intended instrument. When that leads to the selection of a 2.0" or 2.4" OLEDpanel the offered Picaso board cannot be used because it is too large. This problem does not occur with the Goldelox boards for the even smaller size OLEDpanels. The cause seems to be the room taken up by some or all of audio amplifier, speaker, expansion sockets and touch screen interface. None of which I have a use for. So it seemed that in order to use 2.0" and 2.4" OLEDpanels with Picaso and 4DLG I would have to make my own boards. That would certainly take away from the hoped for painlessness. So I'm happy that you will do a redesign.
My request: accommodate all S6E63D6 OLEDpanels including the smallest (2.0" and up) in frontend-backend designs - serial interconnection is fine.
Looking through the posts I think I agree with iluciani.
